Your browser. Your rules.
A clear look at what Claude Duet can see, what it stores and why it asks for each permission.
Sent only with your request
The current page goes to the AI only with a message you send while page context is on (it is on by default), or when you run a page action. The switch sits right above the message box.
Approval for important steps
The agent asks before payments, sign-ins, sending messages or submitting personal data, and won’t type into password or card fields.
Stored in your browser
Chats, memory, calendar and settings live in your Chrome profile. Delete them any time.
What leaves your browser
Your messages (with the earlier messages of the chat), the page when page context is on, page data during an agent task, voice clips, your memory items when memory is on, and the context of automations you scheduled go to our server and our AI providers (Claude models from Anthropic via OpenRouter; a Google Gemini model for voice) only to produce the answer. We don’t store this content. Our server keeps a random install ID, request counters and, if you subscribe, your subscription details. The Privacy Policy lists every item and the data categories we declare in the Chrome Web Store.
Why each permission is needed
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
sidePanel | Shows the assistant in Chrome's side panel. |
storage | Saves your settings, chats, memory and calendar in your browser profile. |
tabs | Knows which page is open so it can offer actions for it, opens pages you ask for and lets the agent work in your tab. |
scripting | Reads the current page when you ask, and lets the agent click and type on it with your approval. |
contextMenus | Adds Explain and Summarize to the right-click menu. |
alarms | Runs reminders and the automations you scheduled on time. |
notifications | Shows reminders and automation results. |
Access to websites | Needed so you can use the assistant and the agent on any site you choose. Page content is sent only together with your request. |
Microphone (asked on first use) | Records a voice clip only after you press the microphone, to turn your speech into text. |
